Sunnyvale Vice Mayor and Candidate Jim Griffith has yet to respond to the allegations that he hijacked the identity and registered .com and .net of his opponent’s campaign domain name.
Apparently Jim Griffith, in the past and as well now, has been linked to and is familiar with posting fictitious online content as Tim Risch points out:
There is nothing honorable about what Jim did. There is nothing humorous in what he did either.
Campaigning is serious business and what Jim did was purely deceitful and unethical.
This is not the first time Jim has crossed ethical boundaries. Several years ago he posted anonymous comments about my wife and me on a bulletin board containing false information. We had no idea who it was until months after when we discovered it was Jim. I had never even met Jim and yet he was spreading false rumors and misstated facts about my wife and me.
Given Jim’s penchant for lapses in ethics, I am sure this won’t be the last time we have deal with stunts of this nature.
The Sunnyvale City Council has adopted a Code of Ethics and Conduct for members of the City Council and the City’s boards and commission to assure public confidence in the integrity of local government and its effective and fair operation.
A. ETHICS (3) : Conduct of Members: The professional and personal conduct of members must be above reproach and avoid even the appearance of impropriety. Members shall refrain from abusive conduct, personal charge or verbal attack upon the character or motives of other members of council, boards, and commission, the staff or public.
Jim Griffith has since forwarded the .com and .net of these domains back to Tap Merricks’ official site. However, Jim Griffith owns and is in control of forwarding these domains, it’s not a “fix.”
