Sunnyvale West Citizens Shut Down the Mary Ave Bridge Extension Project

Congratulations Sunnyvale West citizens! Gopal Patangay just relayed the word . . . “GOOD NEWS! Today in the council meeting the motion 1.H – RTC 12-055 to ‘Reject Proposal to Prepare Revised Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and Associated Analysis of Mary Avenue Extension Project’ (F1006-118) is passed with 7-0 vote by the Sunnyvale City Council. At last The Mary Ave. Extension Project is a history.”

In Sunnyvale West v City of Sunnyvale Council, a state superior court ruled that the city’s environmental review of a road extension violated state law because it based it’s review on traffic projections for 2020 instead of current conditions.

This news is very motivating and encouraging to communities that unite and oppose City Projects and illegal environmental impact reports. The Sunnyvale West Decision, as a result of a California Environmental Quality Act CEQA lawsuit, has made an impact throughout the state courtrooms, most recently influencing the win of Madera Oversight Coalition, Inc. v. County of Madera.

Exponential Rise of Pension Plan for Sunnyvale City Workers Prompt Residents to Take Action

“For the past four years, the city has been running in a budget deficit, and a significant reason for that is the growing cost of the city’s pension obligations,” according to Sunnyvale Pension Reform steering committee member Andy Frazer. “I don’t believe pension reform is a political problem; it’s simply a math problem, and I hope we can work together to resolve it.”

The Sunnyvale Pension Reform group has formed to represent the Sunnyvale taxpayers in dialogue between the City Council, city staff and city bargaining units to reign in unfair and unsustainable costs of the city’s pension plan.   Continue reading

Sunnyvale Taxpayers Liability to City Worker Retirement Pension Plans Exceeding the City Budget?

Are the current, rapidly rising Sunnyvale Pension Employee Plan sustainable? And, if so, at what cost and sacrifice to Sunnyvale Taxpayers?

Please review the comments comparing 2010 vs. 2011 from Andy Frazer presented to the Sunnyvale City Council Meeting on 11/15/11:

My name is Andy Frazer. Madame Mayor and City Council Members… A year ago I spoke here a few times about the biggest problem in Sunnyvale. The city’s employee pension program was too expensive, and absolutely unsustainable. Now, one year later, things have gotten much, much worse.   Continue reading

PAMF Sutter Health Exhaust Vents Called “Substantive Disregard of Human Health” for 80-Year-Old Woman

To me, the most disturbing and distasteful feature of the Sunnyvale Palo Alto Medical Foundation, designed by Hawley Peterson Snyder, is the nonchalant placement of the Parking Garage Exhaust Vent adjacent to an 80-year-old woman’s home which was omitted from study in the PAMF DEIR/FEIR.

Gerri Caruso’s “Hands in the Cookie Jar” After “Conflict of Interest” Resignation

At nearly the stroke of midnight, after years of authoritative decision-making for the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Project/DEIR/FEIR it suddenly came to light that Principal Planner, Lead Agency Gerri Caruso was advised to resign to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Apparently, Caruso’s husband had conducted business for PAMF    Continue reading
