Dangers of 3rd fogging in Sunnyvale Aug 19

Sunnyvale will be fogged for the 3rd time next Tues. Aug 19 starting at 11 pm.  Area is Mathilda to #85, Central to Remington.

The notice came on the doorknob Friday afternoon that states ‘there is no significant risk to our families.  No precautions for pregnant women.  Just wash your garden fruits and garden veggies.  Pesticide won’t affect car paints or other painted surfaces.  Close your windows and turn off air conditioning.”

Five people spoke against the fogging at the Aug 12 city council meeting. I spoke how my right eye has been watering and weeping since the first fogging June 2 and I have an unexplained cough.

My research found two websites from the New Jersey government that lists many health dangers below. Here are the websites listing symptoms of pesticide:

1.  ZenivexE4:   page 1 of 4 pages

Click to access Zenivex_E4_Label.pdf

This gives the ingredients in the label, says it is harmful if swallowed and can cause moderate eye irritation.  Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing.

HAZARDOUS to Humans and Domestic Animals, Caution (on label)    Gives First Aid for eyes.

This is for use only by federal, state, tribal or local governments responsible for public health.

2.  Synthetic Pyrethroids:  Symptoms of poisoning

www.nj.gov/dep/enforcement/pcp/bpc/wps/pyrethroids.pdf

New Jersey Dept of Environmental Protection, Pesticide Control Program: This lists 8 symptoms and 3 dangers to the eyes as well as Short and Long term hazards.

(Hope I copied the emails correctly…they won’t copy from the websites. I had to copy by hand.)

Also see the UCDavis study regarding dangers to pregnant women within one mile of farm fogging with this pesticide (60% higher chance of autism in child).

There has to be a less dangerous and more successful way.   This fogging has failed twice in this area.   A search group should go house to house to check mosquitoes before Vector uses poison on us all (Madera Court is the center of this fogging).

People should at least be warned of the dangers.  Fogging should be stopped (IN the county so far, 2 people have West Nile Virus as detected in blood donations and 3 others.  One is serious in the hospital.  No one has died).

If you wish to voice your opinion, contact:

  1. VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT:   408-918-4770,  800-314-2427
  2. Russell.Parman@veh.sccgov.org
  3. Sunnyvale City Council   (they say they have no control but ask them to ask Vector to tell  residents of the dangers and find a more effective method.   It has failed twice already in this Sunnyvale area.

Harvard University says this fogging is not very effective which VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT denies.

Anyone else have runny eyes or cough, irregular heartbeat, nausea, blurred vision, swelling or tremors?   Let Russell Parman know.
